Community Forests Assessment (mangrove) in Kyaukphyu District, Rakhine State in 2022 From December 2023 until May, it was implemented by the Community and Environmental Development Association (CEDA). CEDA implemented Community Forest Assessment 14 for FGD and 28 for mapping in Kyaukpyu and Ramree townships.
The objectives of the assessment are as follows:
- Pilot methodology to obtain reliable CF boundaries.
- Gain insights into the effectiveness of CFs (esp. in Mangrove areas).
- Provide valuable lessons learned and recommendations for communities and CF practitioners.
- Provide insights and recommendations useful for policy, planning and future CF development in Myanmar.
The main study components of the assessment are as follows:
- Compilation & review of secondary data (incl. CF master list, CF scan documents, RFPPF and PA boundaries, mangrove cover & change)
- Participatory CF boundary mapping.
- Focus Group Discussion with CFUGs.
The focus group discussion in community forest assessment was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the participatory CF boundary mapping process was supported by the Centre for Development and Environment of the University of Bern.
